Marco Rubio Visits Mumbai to Advance US-India Trade and Energy Cooperation
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visits Mumbai for talks with S. Jaishankar on trade and energy cooperation, honours 26/11 victims at the Taj memorial and heads to Jamnagar for discussions on energy security with Reliance Industries.
During his Mumbai visit, Rubio met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and participated in discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations. His itinerary also included a speech at the Freedom 250 event, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Taj memorial for victims of the 26/11 attacks, meetings with business leaders and an interaction with US embassy staff.
Rubio's engagements come as Washington and New Delhi work towards a near-final bilateral trade agreement. Trade negotiations and energy cooperation remain central to the discussions, alongside broader efforts to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Following his Mumbai engagements, Rubio was scheduled to travel to Jamnagar to discuss energy security with Reliance Industries. The discussions include the refining of Venezuelan crude, placing energy-related cooperation among the key issues on his agenda.
The visit also addresses the challenge of maintaining balanced ties with Pakistan while advancing US-India cooperation. The discussions reflect a broader diplomatic agenda spanning trade, energy security and regional relationships, with the stated objective of promoting shared prosperity in an increasingly complex world.
Rubio's meetings in Mumbai and planned discussions in Jamnagar underscore the importance of trade negotiations, energy partnerships and strategic engagement in shaping the next phase of US-India relations.
